This time I will talk about another of my favorite cartoons from the 80's, The Real Ghostbusters. And although this franchise originally started in the cinema with the movie Ghostbusters in 1984 and continued with its sequel Ghostbusters II in 1989. It was in the 1986 cartoon that the plot of the story and the personality of the characters could be further developed. And for today's illustration I chose my favorite character from this series, Egon Spengler.
From the start of the franchise it was established that Peter Venkman would be the leader of the Ghostbusters. And so we could see it in the two original films, since he had the leading role played by Bill Murray and the story revolved around him. And while he was still the official leader in the cartoon, he really only made the decisions regarding business. Instead, Egon was the one who commanded the team during missions. He was the one who devised the strategies to fight the ghosts, and when there were problems, he always came up with brilliant ideas to solve the situation. Also, most of the artifacts and devices the Ghostbusters used were Egon's inventions. And as the series progressed, the lead role fell more and more on his character. I don't want to downplay the role Peter had on the team. Because, although he was sometimes very lazy and distracted, in some chapters he showed that he also had scientific knowledge and the courage to face enemies. In addition, Peter was the soul of the team, all the comedy in the series fell on his character. And it was his relaxed spirit that made him bump into how strict Egon was sometimes. But despite the conflicts, they were great friends and always had a pleasant coexistence.
Did you know that Egon Spengler was attacked by the Boogieman as a child?
During the 1986 cartoon, Egon admitted to having had a traumatic experience with the Boogieman during his childhood. But this only gave him the impetus and motivation to get involved in the investigation of the paranormal, and with this find a way to combat it.
In the most recent cartoon, Extreme Ghostbusters from 1997, which tells what happened years after the first cartoon. We can see that Egon returns to take a leading role. In this new animated series, it is recounted that after the Ghostbusters voluntarily dissolved due to a sharp drop in paranormal activity. Egon volunteered to monitor the Containment Unit and other equipment at the firehouse, while teaching courses on paranormal phenomena at New York City College. But years later, after a spectrum incident occurred and the firehouse received hundreds of calls, Egon decided to reopen the Ghostbusters. For this he recruited and trained four of his students, and thus formed a new team. And although he was still the genius inventor of the team, he no longer took sides in missions, now he only limited himself to serving as a radio support to advise the team from the firehouse. Without more for the moment, I leave you with the illustration of this great character, see you in the next post.
